Discovering Donoratico
Halfway between Castagneto Carducci and the coast we find Donoratico, which owes its name to a medieval castle, whose ruins and showy tower can always be visited. Donoratico, in its most commercial part, develops along the Aurelia, the historic Roman road, welcomes visitors with its lively and summer-oriented attitude. In fact, a few minutes from the town there is the beautiful and inviting golden beach that goes from Marina di Bibbona to San Vincenzo, the splendid Cala Violina, the Etruscan coasts of Baratti, one of the most renowned gulfs.
The village was born in the first half of the 19th century, when Guido Alberto Della Gherardesca created a series of inhabited areas, mostly composed of farms. Donoratico developed starting from 1863, when the Livorno-Follonica railway was inaugurated and the Bambolo station was built here, which instead of being built in the locality of the same name, was built at the behest of the Della Gherardesca counts next to their Mandriacce property, around which the center of Donoratico grew rapidly.
Rich in artisan activities, Donoratico is also characterized by the construction of racing and pleasure boats.
